7 Beauty + Wellness Secrets From My Trip to Thailand

I just returned from a stunning 3-week trip to Thailand and discovered some relaxing wellness tips that I can’t wait to share with you all. So grab a cup of beau-tea and let me reveal some of their indigenous secrets along with how we can apply them to our daily lives.

Secret #1: Pomelo Power Can Give You a Brighter, More Even Skin Tone

On the first day of my trip, I had the pleasure of trying the most refreshing and delectable pomelo. I found myself continuously stopping by fruit stands to purchase more and enjoying the juicy goodness while strolling around.

I know pomelos exist in the states, but not like the ones in Thailand! Not only is it a great snack, but it also has many benefits for your skin.

Pomelos are super rich in vitamin C, which helps to brighten and even out your skin tone. They also contain antioxidants to help fight off free radicals that damage your skin. So, if you're looking for a tasty way to improve your skin, make sure to add some pomelo to your diet.

Takeaway: If you’d like some vitamin C for your skin, the Savor Beauty Truffle Face Cream, Pomegranate Eye Serum, and Pumpkin Seed Renew Serum all have the vitamin C antioxidants to brighten and even out skin tone while protecting the skin from free radical damage.

Secret #2: Heat and Humidity’s Surprising Climate-Wellness Connection

While some people may shy away from the hot and humid weather in Thailand, it did wonders to make my skin so supple! The heat and humidity made my skin feel soft as butter and lightly moisturized all day long.

The sun was brutal, so it's important to protect your skin from the sun's harmful UV rays; make sure to wear sunscreen and if you’re trying to avoid sun spots on your face, you may even want to consider wearing sun patches!

Takeaway: While it may not be possible to go to Thailand to enjoy the climate-wellness connection, you can opt for the sauna for similar benefits for steamy skin. The heat from the sauna can also help to open up your pores and promote sweating, which removes toxins from the body.

Just be sure to stay hydrated and take breaks as needed to avoid overheating!

Secret #3: Soothing Benefits of Thai Massage for Mind and Body

Massage spas are to Thailand what bodegas are to New York City—you can find them on nearly every block and on the beaches. My partner loves traditional Thai massage (I opt for oil massage), which is a traditional healing practice that combines acupressure, stretching, and other massage techniques for relaxing balance.

If you don’t have access to this specialty treatment, you can simply use your hands to massage your scalp, face, and neck at home. Begin by using your fingertips to apply pressure to your scalp and work your way down to your face and neck, using circular motions to help release tension.

While these techniques may not be a substitute for a professional Thai massage, they can still provide some of the benefits of massage and help you to relax and unwind at home.

Takeaway: Don’t forget to schedule your self-care time (I use the Savor Beauty Planner.) By taking the time to plan and schedule self-care activities, you are making a deliberate effort to prioritize your health and happiness!

Secret #4: Unveiling the Secret Beauty Oasis, Savor Beauty + Spa in Bangkok!

If you're a beauty lover like me, then you'll be excited to hear about the opening of Savor Beauty + Spa in Bangkok!

During their visit to our Savor Beauty location in New York City's West Village, Chalita Salirathavibhaga, her sisters, and friends fell in love with our products. However, upon returning to their home country of Thailand, they discovered they couldn't order them due to customs restrictions.

Mint and her family's passion for the brand was so contagious that it inspired them to bring it to Thailand. Through dedication and hard work, Savor Beauty + Spa was opened in Bangkok after 3 years of planning.

The grand opening on March 8, 2023 with a K-beauty masterclass for beauty lovers, fans, and members of the press was a huge success, as the family's love for the brand had already spread throughout their community. Their spa offers the full range of our facial treatments and skincare products, made fresh in New York.

Takeaway: This story highlights the power of love and passion in inspiring change and making a positive impact. By following our passions and sharing our love for the things we believe in, we touch the lives of those around us to spread our joy and radiance.

Tip #5: Healing Effects of the Ocean Waves

Thailand's beaches are famous for their white sands, crystal-clear waters, and stunning ocean views. And as a beach girl, I’m also happy that studies show that spending time by the ocean can also heal mind and body!

The sound of the waves crashing against the shore can have a soothing and calming effect on your mind, helping to reduce stress and increase relaxation. The saltwater can have a cleansing and detoxifying effect on your skin, while the sun can provide your body with much-needed vitamin D (just make sure to wear SPF and a floppy hat!)

Takeaway: To enjoy the benefits of the ocean waves from the comfort of your own home, try incorporating some ocean sounds into your daily routine. You can listen to ocean waves on a Sonos speaker at night to help you relax and fall asleep. Studies have shown that exposure to natural environments like the ocean can have a positive effect on mental health and overall well-being.

Secret #6: Wellness Benefits of Thai (Spicy) Curries and Soups for Glow

Let's talk about Thai cuisine! Thai curries and soups are not only delicious but also have many skin benefits. Spicy ingredients, such as chili peppers, can help to increase blood flow and improve your skin's texture and tone. The herbs and spices used in Thai cooking, such as lemongrass and turmeric, also have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that help keep your skin clear and healthy.

This soup from MaiMai Eatery was so delectable and even though I can’t take spicy very well, this one had my taste buds perfectly on edge and still able to savor the tasty soup.

Takeaway: Here’s a New York Times Coconut Curry Chicken Sourp recipe that is popular with over 1700 five stars. Make it and please invite me over (or send me a photo of your dish)! :)

Tip #7: Smiling Can Reduce Stress and Boost Your Mood (try it!)

One of the first things you may notice when visiting Thailand is the gorgeous smiles. Thai people are known for their friendly and welcoming nature, and this is often reflected in their smiles. But did you know that smiling can also have actual beauty and wellness benefits?

Studies have shown that smiling can reduce stress levels, boost your mood, and even make you appear more attractive to others.

Takeaway: So, how can you incorporate the beauty benefits of smiling into your daily routine? Try smiling more often, even when you don't feel like it. Studies have shown that smiling can also improve your overall social interactions and help you to connect with others, spreading your joy and radiance with those around you!

Whether you're planning a trip to Thailand or just looking for some new beauty and wellness tips to try at home, I hope these secrets from Thailand have inspired you to take care of your skin and overall well-being. xx, Angela
